I am Associate Pastor at Rivers of Living Water NY. I am also the Co-director of F.L.O.W. (Fluid Lovers of Worship) which is the TGNB ministry at Rivers and also the Eastern Regional Coordinator for Trans Saints, a ministry of The Fellowship of Affirming Ministries.
March 31st is International Transgender Day of Visibility. It is an annual event dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide, as well as a celebration of our contributions to society.
And though it is a day of celebration we are faced here in the United States and abroad with not only laws that would take away our fundamental rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness which includes food, shelter, employment, and life sustaining and affirming healthcare but with incarceration and even death as is being faced by our Transgender siblings in Uganda by their government as an example.
There are those who might say why do we do what we do, why take the risk … we are intentionally visible because there are those who cannot be, because there are those of us who are CALLED to be visible ….
Pray for us, support us as you are able, be co-conspirators with us, do unto us as you would have it done unto you, love us with the love of Christ.
Since Jesus was the fulfillment of the law he left a commandment, He said “This is my commandment: love each other just as I have loved you”. - John 15:12 CEB
Our visibility is the very expression of that love for ourselves, for our siblings young and old, for our children however they may come to us, and for our Creator, who first loved us … even us.
Prayer:
Today is the 5th day of Ramadan for our Muslim siblings. Today the beautiful name of Allah is as-Salam. Meaning The Source of Peace, The Flawless, the Source of Wholeness and Well-Being.
Hear our cry as the enemy reaches out to us to hurt, kill and destroy us, your creations, your children. We look up, we reach up and out to our Creator, The Source of Peace, The Flawless One, the Source of Wholeness and Well-Being, God our Rock (Yahwah Tsuri), Lord Almighty (El Shaddai), the Prince of Peace … hear our cry. In You we ask for peace and love and life.
